  • Aluminium body with steel lifting arm
  • ellipsis-h
Lifting range of approx 4-18 inches
  • ellipsis-h
    Weighs just under 60 lbs

If you go searching online for a heavy duty floor jack then you're bound to come across  the Powerzone 380044. It's one of the most popular floor jacks available today and at first glance, it appears to bring together the best features of a rugged heavy duty all rounder

Overall value for money

Ok, so last time I checked, this wasn't the cheapest floor jack you could buy. However, it does combine lots of features that make it great value for money. It has a hefty 3 Tonne lifting capacity using a heavy steel lifting arm and aluminium body. This makes it durable, but lighter than other heavy duty jacks. It also features a dual cylinder, quick lifting system.  This makes it easier and quicker to jack up whatever it is you are lifting. Overall it's a versatile floor jack, suitable for DIY enthusiasts  who want to perform tasks such installing new brake pads, changing tires or draining the oil on their vehicles.

Build and Usage

The aluminium body of this jack means even at 60 lbs, it's lighter than many of its rivals.  Yet keeps it sturdy and offers the weight to keep it in place.  It's also fairly portable and easily manoeuvrable, with it's too lifting handles compared to jacks that come with steel bodies.

The lifting arm is made of solid steel, giving it some sturdy lifting power. It also offers maximum durability and control over the hydraulic system. There is also a safety valve that ensures the jack is not overloaded beyond the maximum lifting capacity of 3 tons. And finally, there's a rubber-padded saddle that protects the underside of whatever you are lifting from scratches and dents.

Usually, floor jacks with a heavy lifting capacity of around 3 tons tons can weigh as much as a small adult. But this one comes in at only 60 pounds. So not only will it lift a large car or even a truck, it's also a good deal lighter than a competitor such as the Hein-Werner HW93652 Blue Heavy Duty Service Jack - 3 Ton Capacity that weighs 110 pounds and has the same weight lifting capacity.

The 360-degree swivelling rear wheels allow for easy positioning of the  jack. Once in position, the hydraulic system built into this jack is really efficient in raising to the maximum height with minimum number of pumps. Going by the reviews, you can raise it up to around 18 inches in just 6 pumps.

With a lifting range of approximately 4 to 18 inches, it's falls somewhere in between a low profile and standard jack. This makes it is ideal for lifting lower cars but can also handle ATVs, trucks, and SUVs without any problems.

Weight & Mobility

For some, this jack might be too much to handle by yourself. Thanks to two ergonomic handles and fixed wheels at the front, it's actually fairly handy to manoeuvre around and the handles make it easy for two people to carry it if necessary.

In terms of storage, you can be dismantle and re-assemble it fairly quickly. It's slightly bulkier compared to other floor jacks, but you shouldn't have any problems storing it away in your garage with its dimensions coming in at 28.4 x 13.9 x 7.4 inches.

Check out this video (with strange voice over!) that describes the main features of the Powerzone 380044.

Best Low Profile Floor Jack
Main Features
  • Sleek, low profile steel jack
  • Weighs 67 lbs, dimensions 26 X 13.2 X 6.3 inches
  • ellipsis-h
Dual pump with precision joint release mechanism
  • ellipsis-h
    Meets ASME PALD standards

The Arcan XL20 is a steel bodied, sleek, easy to use, compact floor jack. It's perfect for lifting low profile cars and would make a great addition to the garage of any DIY mechanic.

Overall Value for Money

The are hundreds of online reviews for this jack, mostly positive. Its probably one of the most popular floor jacks available in the low profile, 2-ton range.

The reason for this is because you are getting a low profile (from 3.5 inches) jack, that is built out of heavy grade steel and is capable of lifting most cars with ease. It's not too heavy (weighs around 68 lbs) and the dual pump combined with the long pumping handle makes it a doddle to lift any car in 2-3 pumps.

Build & Usage

This is a nice looking jack. It's is built from high-quality steel and finished with a glossy black paint, that Arcan say is chip and stain resistant.

The handle is covered with soft touch foam, that makes pumping this jack a nicer experience. It also has four sturdy wheels made from steel. I find that the wheels are often the first thing to break on jacks, especially if you move it around a lot. These wheels should definitely be able to take some abuse. Another nice feature is the rubber pad on the lifting arm. This is something you won't see on many jacks and it cushions the surface where the lifting arm touches and pushes the car upwards.

Because of it's sleek profile, you can use it to jack up anything from 3.5 inches to 18 inches in height. This makes it compatible with vehicles that are low profile, right up to SUVs and some lighter trucks too.

I've used this jack myself, and you can easily lift an SUV with a few pumps of the handle. This is because of the dual pumps that are built into the pumping mechanism. The handle itself is nearly 4 feet long and it also features a universal joint release mechanism. This allows you to easily adjust the vehicle's height to the exact height that you need. Here's a cool video explaining universal joints!

It's worth noting that this particular jack meets the 2009 ASME PALD standards. So you can be confident that it is well built, safe and should last a long time.

Weight & Mobility

It may be low profile jack, but at 67lbs it's still going to be heavy to lift and carry by yourself. Luckily, it has some nice steel wheels that make it easy to pull around (using the padded handle).

Even though it's fairly heavy, it's not too big when compared to other jacks in the same class. It measures just over 2 feet long with dimensions of 26 X 13.2 X 6.3 inches. Because it takes up a bit less space, it's easier to store away and it doesn't take up as much space when you are using it, giving you more room to move around and under your car.

Pros
  • check
    It's low profile
  • check
Has dual pump mechanism for quick lifting
  • check
Meets ASME PALD 2009 build standards
Cons
  • Fairly heavy at 67 lbs
  • Only lifts up to 2 tons, so not really suitable for most bigger vehicles
Best Heavy Weight Low Profile Jack
Main Features
  • Lifts 7,000 lbs, with a lifting range of 4 to 20.5 inches
  • Weighs 85lbs, dimensions of 32.2 x 15.5 x 7.2 inches
  • ellipsis-h
Features a dual pump, rotating steel castors and removable handle
  • ellipsis-h
Overload protection valve, and meets or Exceeds ASME PALD-2005 standards

This Performance Tool Floor Jack is from a lesser known brand, but is still a rugged looking, heavy duty floor jack. It will lift anything from a low profile car to a fairly sizeable truck with it's 7,000 lbs lifting capacity and 4 to 20.5 inch lifting arm height range.

Overall Value For Money

If you are looking for a heavy duty jack then look no further. You get a lot of jack for your cash! This particular one has an extra weight lift capacity of 0.5 tons compared to other jacks in the price range. So you can lift up to 7,000 lbs (3.5 Tons). The entire thing is made from steel. This obviously makes it more durable, but it's also going to look and feel sturdier than similar aluminium bodied floor jacks.

It may not be suited to a professional workshop, where it will be used day in day out. It should be more than good enough for a serious DIY mechanic. If you check out the reviews from buyers, the general consensus is that it feels well built, and it should last a long time, even with regular usage.

Build & Profile

This W1627 is built with high-grade steel.  So it's going to be durable even though the steel adds some extra pounds to the overall weight. It is however, a fairly compact floor jack.  Size wise, it's not the smallest jack with dimensions of 32.2 x 15.5 x 7.2 inches. It is fairly compact though if you consider this thing can lift around 7,000 lbs!

Like many other jacks in it's class, it features a dual pumping hydraulic system. This allows you to lift more quickly and with less effort. I like the fact that it has a tough enamel finish, as opposed to a standard paint finish. This should prevent rusting and keep it looking newer for longer.

It is also equipped with a safety valve which offers overload protection. This means you can heighten the jack without worrying about exceeding the lift capacity limit. Like many jacks, it also has a rubber cushion on the swivel stand to protect the vehicle from damage that could be caused while lifting.

Weight & Mobility

Because of it's size and steel body, this jack has some serious weight. It tips the scales at 85 lbs. Luckily it also features some sturdy steel front and rear wheels that make this easy to move across your garage floor. It does come with a lift or carrier handle, but at 85lbs you won't be carrying it far.

When it comes time to storage, it should fit in most garages without too much hassle. The handle comes off, and the back wheels swivel to allow you to maneuver it into a tight corner if necessary.

Overall, you could say that this jack is sleek and fairly portable in terms of size. It's low resting position makes it easy to fit underneath cars with low clearances. It is also suited for lifting low profile vehicles off the ground as well as trucks, SUVs and most other vehicles.

Pros
  • check
It lift rating of around 7,000 lbs
  • check
It has a dual pump system for easier lifting
  • check
It will slide easily under most low profile cars
Cons
  • It's very heavy
  • It's not a very well known brand

Best Portable Low Profile Floor Jack
Main Features
  • Weighs only 30lbs
  • Constructed from heavy duty steel
  • ellipsis-h
Fits under vehicles as low as 3.5 inches

The Pro-Lift F-767 is a budget-friendly, lightweight, low profile jack. It's not the biggest or sturdiest jack on the market, but it's well suited to the DIY mechanic who needs a jack for occasional use.

Overall value for money

This jack is different to others on the list. It's a fairly small jack with dimensions of only 17.9 x 5.3 x 8.5 inches. It's also only 30 lbs, so it's light enough to carry around in the trunk of your car. This jack is strictly for occasional home use. It's just too lightweight to stand up to the demands of daily use in a workshop.

It is however much stronger and probably safer than the old fashioned scissors jacks some car manufacturers include with their spare wheels. So far this reason, this jack is perfect if you are taking a road trip or as a backup in case you get a flat tyre.

If you check out prices online you can find this jack for less than you'd think, and paired up with a decent set of jack stands, you can safely car out minor repairs on most low profile cars.

Build & Profile

The build quality of the jack isn't bad, considering the price range it usually falls into. The frame is made of steel which gives some weight and extra durability. Going by the reviews, you won’t find many flaws in the build quality. The handle is on the slightly shorter side, but is probably well matched to the size of the jack.

It has a safety release value to prevent overloading above the weight capacity of 2 tons. There is also a bypass device that prevents excess pumping to maintain stable lift heights. As it's smaller and lower than other low profile jacks out there, it should easily go under low profile cars as low as 3.5 inches.

Weight & Mobility

Weighing in at only 30 lbs, it's much lighter than most other low profile jacks. This does come at a price though, the lighter weight means that it's not as heavy duty (and possible not as durable) as bigger, heavier jacks.

With the help of its front and rear wheels, moving and positioning under any vehicle is easy. It's even portable enough to change a wheel on the side of the road if you get stranded. It's also good for lifting higher vehicles, and should give good clearance with it's lift range of up to 14 inches. It's not the best option for trucks and SUVs, but would probably give enough lift to change a tire or service the brakes on most vehicles.

Pros
  • check
Very lightweight compared to other jacks
  • check
    It's portable and easily maneuvered
  • check
It will fit under cars as low as 3.5 inches
Cons
  • It's not as big or robust as other jacks on the market
  • The lift weight capacity is fairly low at around 4,000 lbs
  • It's not well suited to bigger vehicles like SUV's or trucks

Overall Value

This floor jack is fairly compact in size compared to other jacks in it's class. If you check out the reviews,  most agree that this is a sturdy, well built jack that should last for years.

It's also very easy to use and quickly raises vehicles with 3 or 4 pumps of the handle, and can be used on range of vehicles due to it's large lifting capacity and a respectable lifting range of 5 to 21 inches. It's not the most portable of floor jacks, but it's heavy duty steel construction does make it suitable for daily use in a workshop.

It comes with a limited one year warranty. But beyond that, you can also easily order replacement parts for the jack on the official Blackhawk site. Overall, this jack is a great long term investment if you want a more robust jack with extra lifting capacity that can be used at home or in a workshop environment.

Build & profile

The B6350 is built using heavy-duty steel, with sides that are rolled for reinforcement and to give extra strength under large loads.

Even though this is a large heavy jack (weighing in at 85 lbs), it's really easy to use. It operates on a standard trolley design with fixed position front wheels and rotating rear castor wheels. The removable rubberized saddle is easy to poistion under any jack plate as it swivels 360 degrees in either direction.

Blackhack state that the lifting range is from 5 inches up to 21 inches in height. So whilst it's not as low profile as other jacks, it should still fit under a large range of vehicles.

It also features a two-piece removable handle which is padded to protect your hands and the vehicle being lifted. Also, the handle makes an angle while pushing up to balance the force on the surface of the car.

Weight & mobility

Weighing in at 85lbs, this jack weighs about the same as most others in it's class. It's not the type of jack you're going to carry around in the trunk of your car, or carry around at home. But it's easy enough to manoeuvre by pulling along the ground on it's steel wheels.

Pros
  • check
    Is well built, yet mobile
  • check
It will lift most standard vehicles with ease
  • check
It comes with a 1 year warranty, and replacements parts are easily obtained
Cons
  • It's heavy, so not a replacement for a scissors jack in your trunk
  • It will lift a wide range of vehicles, but not really suited to low profile cars
